Brockton & Durfee Split In Hoop Action

The 2025-26 Big 3 Conference basketball season kicked off last night, with the home court teams prevailing. The Brockton boys defeated visiting Durfee, 52-36, while the host Durfee girls prevailed, 50-32 over the Lady Boxers.

In the girls action, the Hilltoppers were led by Jasiya Norwood with 17 points. Tajeaya Sterling added 14 points, while Skyla Coward chipped in with 8 points.

For the Lady Boxers sophomore Kendall O’Brien led the way with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block and 3 steals. Other key contributors for Brockton were:

Durfee’s Jasiya Norwood

On the boys side, Durfee’s Jaheim Calixte had a strong game with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Rashad Williams added 6 points, while Marvins Antonie and Sir Morales chipped in with 5 points each.

Big 3 conference hoop action continues when Brockton and New Bedford square off on January 13. The Brockton boys will again be at home, while the Lady Whalers will host the girls match-up.

Durfee Girls Hoop Wins Holiday Tournament

The Durfee girls basketball team took first place in the Skip Karam Holiday Tournament, held at Durfee’s Luke Urban Field House. The Lady Hilltoppers defeated Somerset-Berkley, 46-31 in the championship game. Durfee’s Jasiya Norwood was named tournament MVP.

Durfee Boys & Girls Hoop Teams Win Holiday Tournament

The Durfee boys and girls basketball teams both won the Skip Karam Holiday Tournament, held at Durfee’s Luke Urban Field House. Both squads faced Taunton River rival Somerset-Berkley in the finals. The Durfee boys prevailed 60-56, while the Lady Hilltoppers won, 59-31.

In the boys game, Durfee jumped out to a huge lead but the Blue Raiders stormed back in the second half to make it close. The Hilltoppers were led by Tournament MVP Jah Stephenson with 28 points. Alvin Teixeira added 13 points, while Ben Sherry chipped in with eight points and double-digit rebounds.

Durfee advanced to the finals by winning its opener of the two-day tournament, 71-61 over Hingham. Teixeira led the way for Durfee with 29 points, while Jaden Souza added 23 points.

With the wins, Durfee improved to 3-1 on the year.

Jayda Martino

In the girls finals match-up, the Lady Hilltoppers were paced by Skyla Coward with 11 points and Tejeaya Sterling with 9. Jayda Martino (six points) was named the Tournament MVP.

Durfee earned its berth in the finals by dominating Diman Vocational 57-11 in the semi-finals. Avery Lane paced Durfee with 13 points in that one, while Coward added 10. With the tournament victories, the Lady Hilltoppers evened their record at 3-3 on the year.

Durfee Hoop Teams Take Holiday Tourneys

It’s been happy holidays for the Durfee boys and girls basketball teams as both squads won their respective holiday tournaments. The Hilltopper boys won their own Skip Karam Holiday Tournament, while the Lady Hilltoppers captured the Taunton Holiday Classic.

In the boys’ finals match-up, the game went down to the wire, as Durfee held off a late charge from a talented Taunton squad, 76-73. The Tigers went into that contest undefeated. Durfee, which started quickly in the game, built a double-digit lead in the third quarter while Taunton standout Tyler Santos was on the bench due to foul difficulty.

Santos returned to the game and the Tigers quickly closed the gap. The Toppers were equal to the task however, as clutch performances from Jeyden Espinal and Devontae Stewart helped Durfee fend off the Tigers’ surge. Espinal was named the Tournament MVP.

Durfee had a balanced attack with Espinal leading the way with 21 points. Stewart had 19 points, while Jaleale Simmons added 17 points and Avonte Lamore chipped in with 13. Santos, with a dominating fourth quarter performance, lead all scorers with 28 points.

In the semi-final round game, Durfee had little trouble in advancing with a dominating 90-41 win over Brighton. Taunton had advanced by handing Dartmouth its first loss of the season, 61-57. Hunter Matteson scored a game high 31 points to lead Dartmouth in that one. The Indians had an easy go of it against Brighton in the consolation game.

Durfee boys celebrate tourney championship

The Durfee girls took the Taunton Holiday Classic with a solid 49-29 win over Holliston in the finals. With the win, the Lady Hilltoppers remain perfect on the year at 5-0. Mya Hayes-Paulette led Durfee with 12 points, while Jada Holley added 10. Both girls were named to the All-Tourney team

In the semi-final round match-up, Durfee handed host Taunton its first loss of the year with a 49-39 victory. Hayes-Paulette led Durfee with 14 points in that one, while Holley added 10 and Landry Caron and Julia Hargraves chipped in with eight points each.
