A day after Brockton track and field swept Durfee, the Hilltoppers’ boys and girls tennis squads returned the favor against their Southeast Conference foe, winning both matches against the Boxers. Both the Durfee boys and girls teams won their matches handily, as both won by 4-1 scores.
With the win, the Durfee boys improve to 9-3 overall and sit in second place in the SEC with a 3-1 mark. Brockton meanwhile, is 0-5 overall and 0-4 in league play. The Hilltopper girls are now 5-8 overall and 2-2 in the conference. The Boxers fall to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the SEC.
In the boys action, Durfee’s first singles player, Jorge Beltran cruised in the first set 6-1 but needed to win a 7-5 tie-breaker to defeat Christian Wahnon in the second set, 7-6. At second singles, Durfee’s Chris Panchley won easily against Joel Nunoo, 6-1, 6-0. Hilltopper Will Rumsey then had an even easier time at third singles, winning 6-0, 6-0 to sweep the singles matches for Durfee.
Brockton picked up its lone point at first doubles. There, the duo of Stevenson Exantus and Fedson Exantus defeated Durfee’s Jack Fitzgerald and Murali Mahaseth in a hard-fought match, prevailing 2-6, 6-1, 10-6. Hilltoppers Jesse Tamba and Colin Fleet then took the second doubles match, defeating Ren Long and Nick White 6-0, 6-2
In the girls match, Durfee’s Dalia Karam dominated at first singles, knocking off Milani Depina 6-2, 6-0. Liv Rumsey then won for the Toppers at second singles, posting a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ahunna Okreke. Morgan Ledo then completed the singles sweep for Durfee by winning 6-2, 6-4 over Brockton’s Christelle Jean-Baptiste.
At first doubles, Durfee’s Tabicas twins, Madi and Brooke were victorious against Renece Vernon and Nedjy Joseph, 6-3, 6-4. Brockton earned its point at second doubles. There, Jessica Le and Priscilla Barros knocked off Gabby Farias and Sydney Duong 6-1, 6-3.
